THE NOTTING HILLBILLIES |

An affectionate over-view on the history of one of most unlikeliest of bands to emerge onto the 90's music scene. Four blokes dressed in western style Victorian frock coats complete with bootlace ties appeared in the album charts in 1990. The band took their music far more seriously and armed with a repertoire from the songbook of artists having long preceeded them like The Louvin Brothers, The Delmore Brothers, Charlie Rich and their own self penned works,
L - R: Steve Phillips, Mark Knopfler, Guy Fletcher, Brendan Croker
The Notting Hillbillies found themselves reaching the No.2 position of the UK album charts during March of that year. And it wasn't all to do with the fact that Mark Knopfler was in the band ..... well, maybe it did a little bit! For many at the time the joy was in witnessing four gleaming 'National' guitars in the line-up and dragging die-hard blues purists out of their smokey dungeons. For others it was the songs that brought about a wonderful nostalgic element of childhood memories of early wireless sets and the sounds of the rural American lands. Anecdotes, inspirations, the songs and more.
