HILLBILLIES

The coming together of Mark Knopfler (L) and Steve Phillips (R)

saw the formation of 'The Duolian String Pickers' in 1968.

News cutting of 'The Duolian String Pickers' which was just

Mark Knopfler (L) and Steve Phillips, seated in the middle.

The caption underneath reads ....

''A performance by The Duolian String Pickers before the good folk of the Horsforth Mechanics Institute, is recorded in a 1973 edition of the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Knopfler is far left sporting his Blind Willie McTell cap which Steve Phillips           thought made him look like a spaniel''

*

It says at the bottom of photo .....

''The unofficial inaugaration of The Notting Hillbillies''

May 1986 at The Grove, Leeds.

*

During the peak of Dire Straits, Mark joins Steve yet again for a

bit of the old magic that works between them.

*

It wouldn't be long before the two were together again when Mark

was interested in producing Steve's next album which in turn became

The Notting Hillbillies.

*

Drafted in for The Hillbillies was Dire Straits keyboard player, Guy Fletcher

and the glorious singer guitarist, Brendan Croker.
