NATIONAL GUITARS BLUES SLIDE GUITAR BOTTLENECK BLUES GUITAR Steve Phillips is one of the pioneering slide blues guitarists of the UK and one of the early UK white performers using exclusively National steel bodied guitars. Steve Phillips has arguably been the main influence on the popularity of the National steel guitar since the early 1990's due to his works with Mark Knopfler in the Notting Hillbillies and of course Steve Phillips' own National guitar used for the front cover of Dire Straits' Brothers In Arms album cover in 1985. Not only is Steve Phillips a phenomenal slide or bottleneck guitarist but his vocal talents are so reminiscent of the original blues masters that he simply leads the way in truly authentic acoustic country blues playing. In my opinion Steve Phillips is The King of the National guitar - forget all other claims to that title! Written by: Neville Norris (World acoustic guitar)
